Christmas 'Top of the Pops' was introduced into our school calendar by Mrs Janice Jones, Head of Sixth Form, and her husband Wynford (Wimpy) in the early 1990s. The show was originally intended as an end of term ‘filler.’ It is still alive and well, thirty years later. Our Christmas TotP extravaganza continues to be an extremely popular 'end-of-term' treat for all pupils. In the late 1990s the concert was co-hosted by a young, enthusiastic Sixth-Former called Stephen Baber. What ever happened to him? Over two decades later, the Christmas show is overseen and hosted by Mr Stephen Baber, Afon Tâf's Deputy Headteacher! This year, our audiences were treated amongst others, to performances of ‘Valerie’, ‘Rasputin’, an ‘ABBA’ medley, an Oasis classic, and a very competitive sing-along competition!
We’re extremely grateful to those pupils and staff who work so hard to keep this very dear Christmas tradition alive. Long may it continue.
