A course in Child Development offers you an opportunity to study the development and care of children from conception to the age of five years.
In Year 10 students must complete a child study on a child they know and are able to observe, who is under five years old. In Year 11, they will complete a child focussed task, which involves researching and making an item to help a specific area of development such as social skills. The course also includes a body of theory related to child development with a 40% examination at the end of Year 11. An ability to be able to revise , recall information and apply knowledge is essential.
The course provides a suitable basis for further study at 16+ offering progression on to academic and a variety of vocational courses including GCE Home Economics, GCE Health and Social Care, National Diplomas/Certificates in Health Studies/Care and CACHE courses..
The three elements of the course consist of :
Unit 1: Exam (40%) Taken at the end of Year 11;
Unit 2: Child study(30%) Completed during Year 10;
Unit 3: Child Focused Task (30%) completed during Yr 11.
